Construction projects full steam ahead before potential second wave

Construction projects across the UK are working at full capacity as homeowners, developers and builders try to maximise production before the next covid-19 wave occurs.

Whilst currently not under lockdown, the risk of a potential second wave lingers with some parts of Britain such as Oldham and Leicester already classified as high-risk areas.

With this on the horizon, construction companies and builders are working at full capacity to get projects completed and over the line, creating a surge in demand from customers across the country.

Dan Kettle of mortgage broker Octagon Capital explained: “People are using this covid lull period to make renovations to their homes and some of them are covid-driven. For those now expecting to work more from home, they are installing home offices, either in the garden or by converting their garages. Elsewhere, people are looking at sprucing up their gardens, since now they are spending more time at home and making room for home gyms.”

“Planning permission is becoming a bit of a grey area and whilst compulsory by law, adding things to you garden can cross be obtrusive to neighbours and this will undoubtedly catch up with some homeowners.”

“For new homeowners, there are lots of opportunities following recent stamp duty cuts. So young people specifically, now have a better chance than ever to get on the ladder and will no doubt be looking for building works and changes to fittings and fixtures to help them get settled in.”

Keeping in line with covid-19 safety precautions is still key, with all builders expected to socially distance themselves and wear appropriate PPE to protect any residents.

Chris Griggs, Director of Griggs Homes commented in light of the situation: “Our site teams have shown the upmost professionalism throughout these challenging times. All of our staff, suppliers and sub-contractors have been extremely careful to ensure they are following the latest government guidelines.”

“We will continue to place a strong emphasis on safety as we adjust to a new ‘normal’ and a new way of working. We are making fantastic progress across all of our bespoke client projects and our development sites.”
